Helen Harrison

Helen Harrison lives in Stratford. After working as a resource person in Christian Education at a denominational head office in New Brunswick, and teaching at a Bible School in Calgary, she returned to Stratford to raise her two boys, now grown. She taught piano and singing privately, served as a church music director, and eventually became the music teacher at a local elementary school. Retiring in 2005, she immediately set off on a mission trip to teach in Brazil for the summer.

When she returned she had a sense that her church should be running a similar program to the Mission, teaching life skills and showing the love of Christ to the children on their doorstep. After taking a year to plan and building bridges to the local school, Kid's Company was launched in October 2006. They have grown from about 18 to over 100 in the first four years. Other churches, hearing of their work, have been motivated to try similar programs. Helen loves to share about Kid's Company and has done so in churches, at women's meetings and at local service clubs. Since retiring she has also been developing a career as a freelance writer and is currently working on manual to help other churches begin similar ministries.

Helen is a gifted speaker, with a sense of humour, who helps her listeners feel at ease. As well as telling the "Kid's Company Story", she is happy to share about her mission trip (Brazil and China) and about her experience of "Moving on from Depression". She is comfortable in facilitating workshops about "Using Your Creativity to Enhance your Devotional Life" and "Reaching Your Community by Connecting with the Local School" (for church teams planning to develop a Kid's Company ministry).

Helen is a talented singer/songwriter who brings the scriptures to life as she tells bible stories in song. She has sung in churches, coffee houses, retreats and conferences. Listeners frequently comment on the vibrant pictures painted with her words and how the Spirit ministers when she sings. Although Helen accepted Christ as her Saviour when she was 13, it was not until she was 22 that she invited him to be Lord of her life. It was shortly after that that He gifted her to put his messages into song. In 2007 she released a CD of original Scripture songs called Along The Way.
